چکیده

We present new combined attacks on the AES key schedule based on the work of Roche et al. [16]. The main drawbacks of the original attack are: the need for high repeatability of the fault, a very particular fault model and a very high complexity of the key recovery algorithm. We consider more practical fault models, we obtain improved key recovery algorithms and we present more attack paths for combined attacks on AES. We propose to inject faults on the different operations of the key schedule instead of the key state of round 9 or the corresponding data state. We also consider fault injections in AES constants such as the RCon or the affine transformation of the SubWord. By corrupting these constants, the attacker can easily deduce the value of the error. The key recovery complexity can then be greatly improved. Notably, we can obtain a complexity identical to a classical differential side-channel attack. Our attacks defeat most AES implementations secure against both high-order side-channel attacks and fault attacks.

Transposition of AES Key Schedule

In this paper, we point out a new weakness of the AES key schedule by revisiting an old observation exploited by many known attacks. We also discover a major cause for this weakness is that the column-by-column word-wise property in the key schedule matches nicely with the MixColumns operation in the cipher’s diffusion layer. Then we propose a new key schedule by minor modification to increase ...

AES Variants Secure against Related-Key Differential and Boomerang Attacks

In this paper, we summarize the recent related-key differential and boomerang attacks on AES by Biryukov et al. and present a framework for protection against these attacks. Then we study an alternative AES key schedule proposed by May et al. at ACISP 2002 as a possible candidate to protect against these related key attacks. We find that there exist equivalent keys for this key schedule and in ...

Enhanced Flush+Reload Attack on AES

In cloud computing, multiple users can share the same physical machine that can potentially leak secret information, in particular when the memory de-duplication is enabled. Flush+Reload attack is a cache-based attack that makes use of resource sharing. T-table implementation of AES is commonly used in the crypto libraries like OpenSSL. Several Flush+Reload attacks on T-table implementat...

Practical-Titled Attack on AES-128 Using Chosen-Text Relations

Related-key attacks on AES-192 and AES-256 have been presented at Crypto 2009 and Asiacrypt 2009. Although these results are already quite spectacular, they have been extended to practical-complexity attacks on AES variants with 10 rounds at Eurocrypt 2010. These advances in cryptanalysis are enabled by the introduction of a new type of related keys. Let the secret key be denoted by k, the roun...

New Impossible Differential Attacks on AES

In this paper we apply impossible differential attacks to reduced round AES. Using various techniques, including the early abort approach and key schedule considerations, we significantly improve previously known attacks due to Bahrak-Aref and Phan. The improvement of these attacks leads to the best known impossible differential attacks on 7-round AES-128 and AES-192, as well as to the best kno...
